Stressless Comfort- Even in the office!

By in design tips

At Lexington Furniture, we have a lot of chairs.  Big chairs, little chairs, leather chairs, and fabric chairs.  Chairs with ottomans, chairs that swivel, and chairs that recline.  You could say we have hundreds of different chairs (seriously, we
do.)  You could say we are chair experts (we actually take classes on this.)  And all of our chairs are comfortable.

One of our chair manufacturers takes the comfort factor to a new level.  Actually, that is their main focus.  All else is secondary.  While the do strive to make a product that is ergonomically correct, even their name is based around the comfort idea.  Ekornes Stressless didn’t invent the wheel- they just made it more comfortable.

The Stressless line has a very distinct look and feel.  There are many imitations, but the style and construction of an Ekornes Stressless chair is unique.   We could get into the details (we take classes on this, remember) but that might take a while.  Just trust us that these chairs are as much of an engineering masterpiece as much as they are a work of art or a piece of furniture.

And now they make office chairs.  And I want one.  Badly.  Here are just a few of features that make this new office chair exciting.  Like most office chairs this chair sits and rolls on wheels and swivels and reclines.  That is where the likeness between your chair and the Ekorness Stressless chair ends.

The headrest changes positions as the position of the chair changes- adjusting automatically so you can read and watch television, even in a reclining position.

The proprietary Plus system adjusts the lower lumbar support simultaneously with the headrest.  Upright or reclined, you are always perfectly supported.

You can easily raise or lower the headrest to your liking with one simple movement.

Each chair comes with adjustable Stressless  Glide wheels to allow you to customize the amount of effort it takes to shift the seating position or recline.  Once you have found the perfect setting, you simply shift your body weight to make the chair adjust to your desired position.

Different levels of density foam in Comfort Zones give you a better seating comfort, as the indentations let you sink deeper into the seat and back of the recliner.

As an employee who uses and abuses his office chair, I would like to formally throw my name into the hat as a product tester.  So what do you think about this chair?  Let us know- we always love to hear your opinions!  Be sure to look for this chair coming to our showroom soon!

Market Observations

By in design tips

We’re just back from the fall furniture market in High Point, NC.  The key words for this market are clean and colorful.  While I can’t say there is any single strong color, many manufacturers are showing gray to charcoal as a background.  Then they are contrasting that with colors like orange(from bright to burnt), strong yellow tones, vibrant lime or apple green colors, and also blues that go to gray or may have a touch of green in them.

Clean transitional looks are getting stronger.  Henredon introduced a great new collection of bedroom, dining room, and living room that has very clean and very elegant lines.  Lexington Home Brands continues to emphasize this clean look with collections like “11 South”.

Traditional Styles of furniture continue to be strong of course.  Again, styles have less ornamentation and are becoming less and less formal.  Wood tones are trending lighter as are leather colors.

The trend seems to be that there is no trend.  We are seeing more variety and selection than ever before, allowing us to create our own very individual look in our homes.

A Word from Owner Hugh James

By in design tips

We just arrived back home from the Furniture Market in High Point, North Carolina.  It is an exhausting trip but worth the effort. The mood is more upbeat now.  More color than ever, but the neutrals still rule. There were many new introductions by a multitude of our resources.  It should be an interesting fall once these items hit the floor.

My favorite showroom was Hancock & Moore,   great styles, superb quality, and many new leathers .  Once again we bought the showroom.  Our customers love this event.  They can buy the best leather in the marketplace for 60% off.  It hits our floor tomorrow.

The economy is on the up-swing, and the furniture business is starting to revive .  It has been a long haul, but as an old timer I know how to adjust.  The secret to this industry is to keep your inventory in check, sell quality at a good price, and most importantly take care of your customers.

THANKS FOR YOU TIME.
HUGH JAMES

Upholstery Made For You

By in design tips

Let’s face it.  Our lives are busy, filled with long days and hectic schedules.  At the end of the day, we long to come home and relax on that perfect sofa or comfy chair.  Here at Lexington Furniture Company, I think you’ll find that extra special piece of furniture you’ve been longing for.

When looking for upholstery, you will want to consider the construction.  My favorite is the eight way hand tied system with a full web bottom.  This is traditionally known as the best technique for ensuring long lasting comfort and are characteristics found in high quality furniture.

Selecting the proper seat and back cushion will also help determine the comfort level of your upholstery.  There are many different options available from soft to medium to extra firm.  Whatever you choose, take time to explore the different options and select the right one that is most comfortable for you.  If the option you choose costs a little more, I personally think it is money well spent.  After all, you do want to enjoy your new purchase to the fullest.

Our very talented and experienced staff can assist you with finding that perfect fabric for your sofa or chair.  Please consider giving attention to custom details to create that “WOW” factor.  These details are what make any upholstered piece of furniture extra special and a “one of a kind”.  Get creative by adding nail head trim, custom welting, and contrasting throw pillows with decorative fringe or cord.  Perhaps you might even consider a contrasting band at the bottom of the skirt.  Don’t get intimidated with all the choices.  Have fun with it and create a design to reflect your unique style!

A Relaxing Home

By in design tips

We live in a fast-paced society these days.  Everywhere we go, people are hurried and
hectic.  Whether we are driving down the road or standing in line at the grocery, everyone is “stressed” trying to get to the next item on their lists.

It becomes more and more difficult to find even one place
to really relax and slow down.

All the more reason we OWE it to ourselves to create a pleasing and comfortable “refuge” in our very own homes.  Look around. Does your personal space reflect your personality?  Is it the place you “long to be” or is it just where you “hang your hat”?

If the latter is true, then you are sending yourself off each morning to have a less than “Stellar” day.
Think about it for a moment.  Does your décor play a part in how you feel each day?  ABSOLUTELY, it does!  It is the FIRST thing you see each morning and the LAST thing you see each night.

Your home should be the ONE place that you feel completely relaxed. You should be enveloped with the colors and the things that you love.  Your personal surroundings should calm your spirit and give you feelings of security and warmth.

These feelings do not come about from your “décor” alone.
What about the COMFORT of your furnishings?

Do you have that one chair or sofa that you cannot wait to get to at the end of each busy
day?  Do you have a mattress that cradles you and soothes your aching body?  If the
answer is “no” to these questions, then it is time for action.  Stop by Lexington Furniture Company and find out what real comfort is all about.

We have 30,000 square feet of comfort just waiting for you to try it all out.  Be sure visit our
Tempurpedic area.  Take a little time to lie down and Feel first hand why America LOVES Tempurpedic……Also, try our Ekornes chairs, ergonomically designed to give your optimal support just where you need it.  We look forward to seeing you SOON!

This Just In!

By in design tips

Just off the CR Laine  truck, special ordered for a customer, is this beautiful #4410 sofa with contrasting throw pillows, complemented by the #4416 chair and ½ and #54 castered tufted ottoman in coordinating fabrics.

The Wuzzy Eucalyptus fabric on the chair was chosen to bring out the blue color in the sofa, and is available in a number of other color ways.  A great way to tie all the pieces together is to mix up the fabrics on the pillows, and utilizing a piece in a solid neutral to ground all the pattern and color.  This concept is visually explained perfectly with these pieces.

CR Laine, as well as many of the other upholstery companies we carry, offers hundreds of fabrics to allow you to totally customize your pieces to fit your space and style.  There are many ways to add interest to your upholstered furniture.  Adding trim to the pillows such as cord or fringe, is a great way to bring in some texture.  Mixing patterns, adding tufting, and using textured fabrics are all ways to combine design elements to create a truly beautiful setting.  Have fun with your fabric choices, don’t be afraid to use some pops of color, and it will truly be something you will love to live with!
