Description : The original Teakwood table, handcrafted in China and featuring delicately carved skirting filigree with a marble inlayed top, is from the collections of the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. The table was acquired by the USS Powhatan'smedical officer during the ship's 1853 to 1856 voyage as part of Commodore Matthew C. Perry's squadron that included the signing of the Treaty of Kanagawa in 1854, opening commercial relations with Japan. Inspired by the design of this piece, the Voyager's Table is striking with a Vintage Black finish and pierced metal fretwork hardware on all four corners. Bracketed legs and simple carving under the table top complete the piece.
