Description : The Smithsonian Castle Collection secretary desk that inspired the Georgetown Home Office Group was constructed in Washington, D.C. by a Pennsylvania Avenue cabinetmaker between 1836 and 1839. Designed in the "pillar and scroll" sub-style during the American Classical revival period, the original desk features graceful scroll supports wrapped in richly figured mahogany veneers. The Georgetown Bunching Door/Drawer Unit features a fully extendable drawer and two doors that conceal an adjustable/removable shelf and a fully-extendable pull-out shelf. Two ventilation openings are located in the back panel and a grommet hole offers hidden cord management.
