Description :
Established in 1986 to act as curator of the Smithsonian Institution's diverse campus of buildings, the Architectural History and Historic Preservation office fosters a superior understanding of the heritage of the Smithsonian buildings through preservation, research and education. Adapted from designs popularized in the late 1800s and early 1900s, the Preservation Bar and Counter Stool are depictive of the designs of Hepplewhite. An oval framed back supports a colonnade of shaped spindles over an upholstered swivel memory seat. The seat is raised by a stationary base with tapering square legs in a pin knotty cherry Castle Brick finish.
